Breaking News: Jamb Shocks Candidates, Announces New Date for 2023 UTME

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced a new date for the commencement of the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME). The UTME, which was earlier scheduled to commence on April 29, would now start on April 25, 2023.

This announcement was made known in a statement signed by JAMB’s Head of Public Affairs and Protocol, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, on Sunday. According to him, the adjustment in the date of the UTME was to accommodate some other major and critical national assignments.

JAMB, being a body responsible for conducting entrance examinations into Nigerian tertiary institutions, has the mandate to ensure that every eligible candidate is given an opportunity to exercise their civic responsibilities. This implies that the shift in date is necessary to ensure that other public examinations are not disrupted.

Another reason for the shift in date is to accommodate institutions with stable academic calendars to resume as scheduled. This is important as any delay or disruption could affect the academic progress of the students and the institutions at large.

In addition, JAMB will hold its rescheduled mock UTME on April 18, 2023. The mock examination, which is designed to test JAMB’s preparedness and that of its partners for the UTME, will give prospective candidates the opportunity to have hands-on experience in the CBT test environment.

The JAMB spokesperson noted that JAMB had earlier conducted its 2023 Mock-UTME on Thursday, March 30, in 725 centers across the country. However, the exercise ran into some technical hitches in some centers, thereby denying some candidates the opportunity to sit for the examination.

To address this issue, candidates who were present and screened for the examination but could not sit for it had been rescheduled to retake the mock examination on April 18. The result of the candidates who successfully took the mock examination on March 30 has been released.

JAMB will continue to partner with relevant agencies of government to ensure that its candidates get the best. The board also solicits the understanding of all as it delivers on its critical mandate.

In conclusion, the shift in the date of the 2023 UTME is a necessary measure to ensure that every eligible candidate is given an opportunity to exercise their civic responsibilities without any disruption. As such, all prospective candidates are advised to take note of the new date and prepare accordingly.
